Kenyan artist Nyamari Ongegu, popularly known as ‘Nyashinski’ has officially announced his new deal with Sony Music. The deal, signed in Johannesburg, South Africa, means the “WachWach” rapper joins a roster of artists which includes Tyla, Britney Spears, SZA, Future and many more.
The Kenyan artists collaboration with Sony underscores a broader recognition of the region’s cultural potential, emphasizing authenticity, versatility, and artistic longevity – traits that Nyashinski has exemplified throughout his career.
Nyashinski expressed his excitement for the new opportunity and this chapter in his career, stating,
“This is a product of my choices and lots of love from many people, that’s why we’re here. It’s an exciting time for me, for my family and my team. I give my all in my work, so it’s going to be a fun ride,” he said.
Beyond being among the most nominated artists in East Africa, Nyashinski is also among the most streamed. Boomplay’s April 2023 data ranked Nyashinski as the third-most-streamed rapper in Kenya, with approximately 38.9 million streams, behind only Wakadinali and Khaligraph Jones.
“Nyashinski’s signing is a milestone for us and a testament to the incredible talent emerging from East Africa. He embodies the spirit of innovation and authenticity our label strives to promote. We are excited to support his journey as he takes his rightful place on the global stage and continues to inspire a new generation of artists and fans across the continent,” stated Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha, Head of Sony Music Eastern Africa.
